Dog Grooming
My name is Sarah, ever since I was a little girl I was always animal obsessed. My favourite book was Hair McLaury from Donaldsons Dairy and me and my sisters would always nag mum and dad for a dog. The nagging must have paid off and one day we ended up with two Chocolate Labradors (Roxy and Lulu), a horse and a cat... animals have been present in my life for as long as I can remember, so generating a career with animals has been a dream come true!
When I eventually moved out of mum and dads house I soon realised I couldn't be without a dog… so in came Hugo. An apricot coloured cockapoo, born on valentines day on a dairy farm in Lancashire. I was completely sold and picked him up the same day I made the enquiry. Of course I have until this point always been used to Labradors. The shedding was just about the only hinder to this intelligent and kind breed but I did enjoy giving them a good wash with the hose and then a brush. I found the brushing extremely satisfying, seeing how the dog was so much more comfortable and less irritable after a good brush and wash was hugely rewarding. Also seeing how much happier mum and dad were with them malting less and smelling nicer with regular grooming.
Animal Welfare
Hugo the cockapoo hardly sheds, so this was a whole new ball game. Instead he matted! No matter how much I washed him and brushed him, before I could keep it under control his hair would begin matting again, mainly under his harness. I would try to chop out the matts but eventually they were just all over. So off to the groomers he went, they had to shave it all off and Hugo now looked like Sid off Ice Age. But I knew it was down to my lack of upkeep and knowledge of the coat type.
Before long I realised how much I was enjoying taking care of Hugo's coat. Keeping him in good shape wasn’t only looking after his coat, it was doing a basic health check and knowing what is normal on his body and not normal and what is normal behaviour for him. He was getting his nails trimmed and ears cleaned, weight monitored… I was seeing good results, he would get nice comments from people out on walks, which was great to hear. I soon realised I was really enjoying looking after him at a cellular level, and it took me back to my childhood where I would play vets with Roxy and Lulu. I knew I had found my ‘thing’, and the training began. At the age of 31 I went back to school in Lancashire and enrolled on my level 2 & 3 Dog Grooming Diploma and never looked back.
Service
I have always been a huge advocate for how a place makes you feel when you arrive and how you feel leaving your dog in some one elses care. Before my training began I had a vision to open a salon with plenty of indulgence, character, trust and professionalism. When you drop your dog off I want you and your dog to feel at home, knowing they are being left in safe hands for a small period of time. My aim is to bring your dogs groom to life with an experience that is both tangible and inspirational through professional care. From a small age I knew I wanted to make animals my career, and now I have made that dream a reality, I can't wait to welcome you and your pampered pooch on the journey with me!
